9 Great Cape May Coffee Shops
Finding great coffee in Cape May is (thankfully) so easy! Our family loves a great cup of java and although we can make it at home, there is just something about coffee shop coffee—am I right?
Frankly, the hardest thing will be to choose which one(s) to visit. Just like in my earlier post 4 Awesome Cape May Bakeries, they each have their own personality. Let me give you a run down, so you can plan accordingly…
Washington Mall Area Coffee Shops
Magic Brain located at 31 Perry Street at the entrance of Carpenter Square Mall has been a coffee lovers favorite of visitors and locals alike for years. Talk about personality! It is a lovely place to grab a cuppa and just hang out while you nibble on something yummy from the bakery case. The staff is welcoming, friendly and very knowledgeable. They are open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm daily with a large selection of coffee, tea, and other beverages in addition to aforementioned pastries. All the amazing Yelp and Tripadvisor reviews can’t be wrong.
Coffee Tyme located at 414 Washington Street and 315 Beach Avenue is I believe, the only coffee you can have delivered right to your beach chair via Beach Eatz (check out my blog post hear to learn all about Beach Eatz). I love the idea of having a nice cold iced coffee delivered to me on the beach—don’t you? I have noticed that people love to post pictures on Instagram (including my daughter Rachel) and Facebook with their Coffee Tyme cups! Speaks volume about the brand and this family-owned company. They offer a wide variety of coffee, tea, specialty drinks and pastries of all kinds including gluten free. They are open from 7:00 am to 7:00 am daily.
Out There Coffee located at 315 Ocean Street (Washington Commons near Acme) features local roaster Harry and Beans using only organic beans. There menu is somewhat small with a variety of coffees, espressos, cappuccino, Latte, teas etc. You have to check out their selection of Superfood Lattes with ingredients like turmeric, ginger, beetroot, cashews, ashwagandha (believed to reduce stress), mushroom powder and more! Healthy lattes – who knew??? I also have to mention the Superfood and Smartfruit smoothies. Want gluten free baked good to go with that? They have got you covered!
Madison’s Bakery and Coffee Shop located at 505 Carpenters Lane and 701 Beach Avenue is candidly known more for their fabulous baked goods of all kinds. However, people do rave about their La Colombe coffee both hot and iced!
Tommy’s Folly Café located off the lobby area of Congress Hall Hotel 200 Congress Place is primarily patronized by the guests of the hotel. However, they are open to the public and offer a variety of freshly brewed coffee (La Colombe) and espresso drinks all day long. Add to that Monin syrups and various spirits and you have quite the choice. From a food perspective, the menu includes a variety of breakfast and lunch sandwiches, salads and pastries, as well as a few grab and go items.
Other Coffee Shop locations in Cape May
Avalon Coffee located at Gurney Street and Beach Ave is known for their micro roasting process. Small batch roasting ensures an even roast and allows them to quench the roasted beans with cool air. Their menu includes a variety of coffees, specialty drinks and scratch smoothies with names like Island Paradise and The Remedie. They have a large selection of freshly rolled bagels, bakery specialties (from scones to brownies) and signature sandwiches.
Beach Plum Farm Café located in the West End Garage at 484 Perry Street (across from the CVS) is in our neighborhood and our family go to. There is a wide variety of La Colombe coffee selections including their Draft Latte on tap. Couple that with a selection of other hot beverages and cold drinks. Their bakery selection is farm to table with many ingredients from Beach Plum Farm. The menu includes mini frittatas, scones, muffins, hand pies and more—many of which are also gluten free.
Ostara’s Coffee House West Cape May located at 600 Park Boulevard is technically in West Cape May, but worth the trip. This family-owned coffee shop has a great selection of hot and iced coffee (with coffee ice cubes—how cool is that? pun intended) and teas, hot chocolate, smoothies, and other yummy beverages. Locally made baked goods and hot breakfast sandwiches are also on the menu with vegan and gluten free options. This small shop has raving fans that love the book exchange shelf and the warm, welcoming yet funky vibe.
Golden Stop West Cape May 120 Park Boulevard around the corner from Key West Tacos. New to the coffee scene in Cape May as of 2022. They have a wonderful, creative menu of coffee including a Bourbon Maple Latte (yes please!). There is also a small, but wonderful section of fresh in house baked treats including one of my favorites – monkey bread.
I sincerely hope this has given you plenty of information to stay caffeinated and easily find great coffee in Cape May. Here is a handy map to make it easy to find them all.
There are so many options to choose from and each one has a very distinct personality and spirit. As I usually suggest, try them all and see which one you love the best. I highly recommend checking their websites or Facebooks before you go as business hours can change throughout the year. I am so curious to hear about your favorite(s) and why.
