Mind-Body-Spirit in Cape May

Cape May is the perfect spot to nurture your Mind-Body-Spirit. I have always felt a profound sense of calm and relaxation as soon as I enter Cape May. My blood pressure drops a little—everything just feels lighter. It literally happens every single time. Craig McManus, a medium who gives ghost tours in Cape May, believes that it is the East Coast version of Sedona and so do I. The local spirits have always known it, as I describe in my post Are there really ghosts in Cape May?

If you are into meditating, there is no better place than on the beach in the early morning. Settling in on a blanket or towel by the water and listening to the waves hit the shore is a great way to relax, let go and just be.

Shops

There are several shops in Cape May that speak to the Mind-Body-Spirit connection.

Guardian at 221 Jackson Street is all about it! This quaint little shop is “inspired by Angels” and you can feel it when you walk through the door. They have a wide variety of things to explore from candles to books, jewelry, figurines, stain glass—the list goes on and on. However, their crystal display is the centerpiece of the store. If you already have a crystal collection or want to start one, this is the place. Bonus: they are super dog friendly and will likely want to snap a pic of your pooch (after they give treats of course).

Good Scents at 327 Carpenters Lane is also a source for things that speak to your soul. There is a variety of lovely incense, essential oils and candles. They have these cute little mini stone and crystal sets in a box which are perfect for travel, as well as a growing sone and mineral selection. Have you heard of smudging? Do you need a new Tibetan signing bowl? You can get what you need here!

Need a little self-care?  A Place on Earth at 526 Washington Street and Bath Time at 318 Washington Street are just the ticket. They both offer a huge selection of soaps, lotions, body scrubs, bath product, scents and so much more. I don’t think I have ever walked out of either of these stores without a little something.

Yoga

Yoga, Reiki, Breathwork and more…

If you love yoga, you want to experience it everywhere you go. Cape May offers a great opportunity to do just that.

Cape May Yoga located at 31 Perry Street has a wide variety of offerings for your mind-body-spirit. Of course, they have yoga classes both in their studio (above Magic Brain Café) and on the beach at Stegers Beach (where Perry Street meets Beach Avenue). There is so much more to discover—there are private reiki sessions with Aura cleansing. Their website says they help “channel energy to release blockages and suppressed feelings to allow for holistic healing. The many benefits of reiki include: deep relaxation, stress reduction, clearing toxins, relieving pain, strengthening the immune system and healing from the inside out.” Sound like a wonderful thing to do on vacation, right! They also offer one-on-one sessions of transformational breathwork. Breathwork has been gaining in popularity (especially since 2020…) and is being recognized as extremely beneficial in reducing stress but has so many other wonderful attributes as well. Check out the many classes, workshops and events offered by Cape May Yoga on their website and their Facebook page.

Balance Yoga located at 600 Park Boulevard offers both a variety of different in studio classes, as well as classes at Cove Beach (at the very end of Beach Avenue). You can also schedule Pilates reformer classes and Barre classes. Massage is more your thing? They have you covered with 60, 75 and 90 minutes sessions to choose from. If you prefer to stay in to comfort of your hotel room or rental, you can Zoom their classes too.  All the details can be found on their website and Facebook page.

Cape May Beach Yoga with Kelsy is offered at Congress Beach across from Congress Hall every morning at 8:00am. They are free to guests of Cape Resort (Congress Hall, Virginia Hotel, etc). She also offers classes at Beach Plum farm. Want a real challenge? Try SUP (stand up paddle board) yoga with Kelsy. Looking for a fun, unique girls’ weekend or bachelorette party idea? Then consider the Cape May Getaway package. You can find all the info on her website and Facebook page.
